Whole lotta Ocelot by Rebeccannoying Whole lotta Ocelot by Rebeccannoying
A painting of an ocelot that I did a while back. ^^ It won me a Best of Show ribbon in a competition. The reference photo is copyright to National Geographic, so no stealing XD.

Acrylic on canvas

I like animal art in general, but I feel that most of it does not captivate me because it doesn't seem to have what this does- the artist's conveyed emotion emitting from the animal. The eyes are quite soulful.

Thank you! I tried to have the animal speak for itself in the peice- no background, no fancy pose, just the subject by itself. XD usually i suck at giving things the correct emotion, but I'm glad you like how this came out! :)

This is amazing! I love the incredible detail, especially around the eyes and the eyes themselves.
I curious to see your work without the references.
Otherwise, the coloring and texturing with acrylics are fantastic.

lol I don't usually shoot for realism unless i have a good reference to go by because I am not yet familiar enough with any one subject to do a very good job XD

why ask for critique on this? Its so very well done. I can tell what animal it is, and it looks very real. I want to pet him.

I'm still striving to improve my painting and color theory skills. Fur isn't too hard cause its just the same stroke over and over, but if you look through my gallery the majority of things with any sort of texture are furry animals and I'd like to change that X3 I gotta learn how to do more stuff lol

well, cliche as it is, practice does make perfect. Or gets you as close to it as humanly possible.
